Who the calculators are for
Contractor Calculator is designed for UK contractors, independent professionals and people evaluating a move into contracting. The planner support rate setting, contract comparisons and gross-revenue planning through transparent arithmetic and editable assumptions.
The configurable planner converts hourly, daily, weekly, monthly and annual figures using one stated billable schedule. It can test a known rate, work backwards from an annual billing target and compare the effect of cautious or optimistic working-year assumptions.
How results remain checkable
The planner shows the formulas, editable working assumptions, limitations and worked examples behind the result. The page also explains when the output is useful, what to check before relying on it and how a different delivery scenario can change the commercial conclusion.
Formula definitions are tested against expected examples and boundary cases. Currency calculations use declared rounding rules, and invalid inputs are reported rather than silently replaced. The full approach is described on the methodology page.
Editorial and source policy
Planner explanations address the commercial meaning of each starting basis. The site does not use invented market rates, universal salary multipliers and claims that a generic calculation can determine the right commercial price for every engagement.
The arithmetic planner uses no external rates or thresholds: its result comes solely from the values entered. Where supporting guidance discusses employment rights, status or public holidays, it links to primary sources such as GOV.UK and Acas and displays a reviewed date. General planning information is not presented as legal, tax or financial advice.
Use the estimates responsibly
Results are general estimates, not financial, tax, legal or employment advice. A calculator cannot account for every contract, expense, tax position or personal circumstance. Check the formula and assumptions against the actual engagement, and obtain professional advice when a decision depends on personal tax treatment, legal rights or employment status.
Corrections and contact
Clear workings make errors easier to identify. Reports should include the calculator name, entered values and expected result. Corrections can be submitted through the contact page or by email to Support@poptech.uk. Confirmed errors are reproduced, corrected and covered by a regression test where appropriate.
